Project Projects

Overview

I was the Senior Associate for Project Projects (now known as Wkshps) the 2015 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award-winning design studio, partnering directly with the studio’s founding partners to build and maintain business. I led a range of new strategic, publishing, and interactive projects as the studio’s senior creative director and technologist, focused on large to mid-sized, mission-driven arts organizations and institutions.

Bard Graduate Center website

I led the redesign and development of renowned design school Bard Graduate Center’s website. I devised and facilitated an internal research process wherein I performed extensive interviews with BGC faculty and staff; I also conducted several design workshops, the findings from which I used to produce a series of strategic editorial and content-based recommendations that informed the new website's architecture and design.

In the studio, I lead a collaborative creative development process wherein we considered the significance of "the object" in Bard Graduate Center's pedagogical focus as a research center for design. I also managed the project's technical development with Systemantics, Projects Projects' Germany-based technical collaborator. The website launched in February of 2017.

Kadist website

I led the redesign and development of global arts organization Kadist's website by hosting a series of conversations with Kadist leadership in the studio, the findings from which I used to produce a series of strategic editorial and content-based recommendations that informed the new website's architecture and design.

Throughout the creative process, we focused on Kadist's position as a somewhat esoteric, yet collection-based arts organization with physical locations in San Francisco and Paris and a strong desire to expand its programming to reach a global audience via digital and other channels. I also managed the project's technical development with Systemantics, Projects Projects' Germany-based technical collaborator. The website launched in February of 2017.

Strategy

I devised and facilitated an internal ethnographic research process for the national network of arts organizations,  Common Field. After performing interviews and internal workshops with Common Field staff members, I produced a series of strategic editorial and content-based recommendations that focused on the organization's distinctive nature as an online platform that unites arts organizations in an open and highly collaborative manner. The findings from our work together informed design work in the studio.

I traveled to Marfa, Texas to perform extensive ethnographic research while considering Ballroom Marfa's unique position as an arts organization situated in Far West Texas. Fascinated by the local landscape and the sharp contrasts it inspires, I sought to understand the nature of Marfa itself by traversing the town by bicycle, visiting as many taco trucks as I could find, and taking walks to see the incredible nighttime sky. I visited the Chinati Foundation and the Judd Foundation (The Block); I also attended Marfa Myths, Ballroom Marfa's annual music festival. After conducting several days' worth of interviews and workshops with the Ballroom Marfa staff, I produced a series of strategic and editorial recommendations that could inform the organization's future work as an arts non-profit.
